The riverside provided a perfect setting for a new cultural centre to form a focal point for visitors to Northwich.

The opportunity to explore the connections between the existing town and the attractive riverside through the design of a new public piazza and a new public building inspired the design. A dynamic roof form, as a symbol of this new addition to this town, extended over a theatre and a series of galleries, a café, and new shops. This roof form, bold both in profile and colour extended out into the square to create a canopy and celebrate the entrance to the new building. Onto the street, a more contextual approach to material and scale, helped to ensure the building could repair the streetscene, tying the building into its setting.
